Classic cars, like many collector and hobby vehicles, are often used intermittently rather than as daily drivers, which creates unique battery maintenance challenges. When left stationary for extended periods, vehicle batteries naturally self-discharge over time. This occurs even when the battery is disconnected, gradually reducing its state of charge. If left unmanaged, this can result in insufficient starting power or, in more severe cases, irreversible battery damage.

EASY – The EASY group is for ‘connect and forget’ battery maintenance when you are not using your old-timer / classic car with 6V or 12V starter battery.
6V & 12V lead-acid – The OptiMate 1 VoltMatic battery charger automatically adapts to the battery’s voltage (6V or 12V) and then charges and maintains the battery.

MORE – The MORE group of battery chargers offer additional features such as low volt battery saving and testing and remains easy to use. To save the battery from deep discharge they are battery chemistry specific (Pb or LFP), so that the recovery method exactly matches the battery chemistry. After saving and charging, it will test and maintain the battery.
Use – Connect to the battery and the charger will automatically** diagnose, save, charge, test and then maintain the battery. ** Some require initial voltage selection or pushbutton activated reset (Lithium).

Once selection has been made and memorized*** the OptiMate battery charger automatically recovers, saves, charges, tests and then maintains the battery. OptiMate Select battery chargers with Lithium LFP option, have a pushbutton activated BMS reset option, to reset a’zero’ volt battery so that it can once again accept charge.

A lithium battery may only receive a maintenance charge every few days or weeks, depending on the drain of connected circuitry. OptiMate DUO or Lithium or Select (with LFP selection) battery chargers monitor the lithium battery's charge level hourly and will only deliver a maintenance charge if it sensed the state of charge dropped below 70%. Charge level is brought back up to 90% as is recommended for lithium battery technology. Connect & forget for MORE battery power and LONGER battery life!

TWO ACCESSORIES – All OptiMate battery chargers include 2 separate accessories as standard, a set of battery clips and a fused battery lead / harness with ring connectors that can be installed on the vehicle.
For smaller 6V batteries up to 28.8Ah in size, the OptiMate 1 Voltmatic that delivers 0.6A is ideal. For larger 6V batteries the OptiMate 5 Select that delivers up to 4A is ideal. If you are located in Canada or USA, you can also choose the OptiMate 7 6-12V that delivers up to 10A.
If your 12V battery has become deeply discharged or “dead flat”, we recommend choosing one of our MORE or BEST OptiMate battery chargers. These chargers can automatically recover and save batteries from very low voltage levels before safely charging, testing and maintaining them.
